Paris is about “Flâner”—the art of wandering aimlessly. For students, the city is a giant outdoor café. It’s about buying a baguette and sitting by the river rather than paying for a fancy dinner.
Culture & Exploration
• Musée Carnavalet: A hidden gem in the Marais that tells the history of Paris. It’s 100% free.• Sacre-Cœur Steps: Sit here at sunset. There are always street performers, and the view over the rooftops is the best in the city.
• The Louvre (The Strategy): If you are an EU student under 26, it is free. If not, visit on the first Friday evening of the month (after 6 PM) for free entry.
Cheap Eats & Student Fuel
• L’As du Fallafel: In the Jewish Quarter.The best falafel in Europe for €9.
• The Boulangerie Life: A baguette is legally price-controlled and usually costs around €1.10. Add a wheel of Brie from a supermarket for €3, and you have a meal.
• Bouillon Chartier: A historic, stunning restaurant where you can get a classic French 3-course meal for under €20. It’s loud, busy, and very Parisian Entertainment & Nightlife
• Canal Saint-Martin: This is where the local students hang out. They buy wine from a shop and sit on the edge of the canal to talk all night.
• Shakespeare and Company: The world’s most famous English bookstore. They often have free author readings in the evenings.
Hikes & Outdoors
• Coulée verte René-Dumont: An elevated park built on an old railway line. It takes you 4.7km across the city through tree-lined paths.
• Père Lachaise Cemetery: A "hike" through history. Find the graves of Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, and Edith Piaf.
Where to Sleep
• Les Piaules Belleville: Features a cool rooftop and is in a neighborhood with cheap bars.
• St Christopher’s Inn Canal: Known for its waterfront "Belushi’s" bar which is a hub for international students.
• Generator Paris: Near the Canal Saint-Martin, very trendy and social.
